What does ₹30,000 buy in a laptop in 2026?

At this price you get an 8-core MediaTek chip like those in phones and Chromebooks, or an old 2-core Celeron. Expect 4GB or 8GB of RAM you can never upgrade, 64GB to 256GB of flash storage and, if you choose carefully, a Full HD screen. An SSD and smooth Windows cost more.

SpecWhat our five picks offerWhat it means for you
Processor8-core Helio G99 or Kompanio 540, or a 2-core Celeron N4500Fine for browsing, documents and online classes. Too slow for heavy software.
RAM4GB or 8GB, soldered on all fiveYou cannot add RAM later, so buy 8GB if you can.
Storage64GB eMMC to 256GB UFSNo SSD. Primebooks take a microSD card.

Battery42Wh to 60.3Wh (the Neo's capacity is not published), with maker claims of 8 to 14 hoursThe Primebook 2 Pro and Max have the biggest.

We took each value from the Amazon.in listings of the five picks on 13 October 2026, and the Neo's battery claim from Primebook.

For about ₹9,000 more than the Primebook 2 Max, you can get a Windows laptop. The Acer Aspire (2026) with a Ryzen 3 5400U costs around ₹38,990 and includes Windows 11, Office 2024, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and a 15.6-inch Full HD screen. Its two RAM slots take up to 32GB.

Our guide to the best laptop under ₹40,000 explains why laptop prices rose in 2026, and our best laptop under ₹50,000 guide shows the next step up.

PrimeOS, ChromeOS or Windows: which one do you need?

Choose by the software you must run. A Primebook or a Chromebook handles browsing, online classes, Google Docs, email and video calls. If your course or job needs Windows programs such as Tally, AutoCAD or desktop Excel, neither will do. A Windows laptop that runs them well costs more than ₹30,000.

  • PrimeOS (Primebook) runs Android apps, each in its own window. FoneArena's review of the Primebook 2 Max says apps come only from Primebook's own Primestore, not Google Play, and some are missing. Primebook adds its own office suite, PrimeOffice, which it says is free for life.
  • ChromeOS (Chromebook) runs the full Chrome browser. Google gives each model 10 years of ChromeOS updates, counted from when its chip platform launched, not from your purchase. Microsoft says a free account allows basic editing in Word, Excel and PowerPoint on the web, but desktop Office cannot be installed.
  • Windows runs everything, including Tally and desktop Office. Under ₹30,000, you only get it on slow 2-core laptops or refurbished machines.

On a Primebook, use Google Docs or PrimeOffice. Microsoft offers free editing in its Android Office apps only on screens of 10.1 inches or less, and every Primebook screen is bigger.

Around ₹26,989, rated 4.3 by 991 buyers, the most reviewed laptop here.

The MediaTek Helio G99 is an 8-core phone chip with two fast Cortex-A76 cores at up to 2.2GHz. Its 8GB of RAM is soldered, and the listing gives 8GB as the maximum. FoneArena found that the Primebook 2 Max, with the same chip and memory, slowed down past 10 browser tabs.

The 14.1-inch Full HD IPS screen has an anti-glare finish and 250 nits of brightness, fine for indoor use. Storage is 128GB of UFS, plus a microSD slot for cards of up to 1TB. The keyboard is backlit, and the laptop weighs 1.38kg.

Primebook claims up to 14 hours from the 60.3Wh battery. Ports include two USB-A, one USB-C for charging and data, and a headphone jack. It is made in India with a 1-year warranty, and the listing says walk-in service covers limited pincodes.

  • Buy it if you study or work in a browser and in apps, such as online classes, Google Docs and video calls.
  • Skip it if you need Windows programs such as Tally or desktop Excel. It cannot install them.
  • Worth knowing: apps come from Primebook's own store, not Google Play.

Around ₹29,989 with 256GB of UFS storage, rated 4.2 by 963 buyers. The 128GB version costs around ₹27,990 and shares the rating.

The Max has the same Helio G99 chip and 8GB of soldered RAM as the Pro. Its 15.6-inch Full HD IPS screen (250 nits) and number pad make spreadsheets and data entry easier.

Choose the 256GB UFS version if you edit photos or short videos. Primebook claims up to 12 hours from the 60.3Wh battery, and the keyboard is backlit.

At 1.61kg, it is the heaviest pick, so it suits a desk more than a daily commute. It has USB 3.0 Type-A and USB-C ports, a microSD slot for cards of up to 1TB and a headphone jack, with a 1-year warranty.

  • Buy it if you want a big screen and a number pad for office work, or room for photos and videos.
  • Worth knowing: this suits light editing only. No laptop under ₹30,000 is built for heavy video work.

The Neo puts the same Helio G99 chip and 8GB of soldered RAM into an 11.6-inch body, 1.7cm thick against about 2cm for the other four picks. Its listing gives the weight as 980g in one place and 1.1kg in another. Either way, it is the slimmest and lightest pick.

The trade-off is an 11.6-inch HD IPS screen (1366 x 768), which looks less sharp than Full HD. Storage is 128GB of UFS, with a microSD slot for cards of up to 512GB. Primebook says the battery lasts up to 8 hours, depending on use.

It charges over USB-C and has two USB-A ports and a headphone jack. Primebook says every Primebook has a 12-month warranty.

  • Buy it if you carry your laptop to school or college every day, or your budget stops at ₹25,000.
  • Skip it if you study or work for long hours. The Pro's bigger Full HD screen is easier on the eyes for about ₹3,000 more.

Around ₹17,990, rated 3.8 by 23 buyers so far.

This is the Chromebook we would buy. Its MediaTek Kompanio 540 has eight cores, including two Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz, per MediaTek. These two cores are a newer design than the fast cores in the Helio G99.

The 14-inch Full HD 60Hz screen is anti-glare and rated at 300 nits, brighter than the 250 nits listed for the Primebook 2 Pro and Max and the Lenovo. ASUS calls it a wide-view panel but does not say whether it is IPS.

The weak point is memory. 4GB of RAM is soldered on the board, per ASUS's spec page, and storage is 64GB of eMMC, so keep files in Google Drive. It weighs 1.37kg and has a 42Wh battery, HDMI and two USB-C ports for charging and an external monitor.

Google lists this model for ChromeOS updates until June 2036, and ASUS adds a 1-year onsite warranty. An 8GB version costs around ₹28,990 and is rated 3.0 by 7 buyers.

  • Buy it if your budget is under ₹20,000 and you work in Chrome, Google Docs and Microsoft's free web apps.
  • Worth knowing: the Acer Chromebook 311 (4GB + 64GB) costs the same and is rated 4.2, but by only 18 buyers. Its listing gives two different chips and two different screen resolutions.

Around ₹15,990, rated 3.8 by 220 buyers, the most reviewed Chromebook here.

This is the lowest-priced laptop we would consider. Its Intel Celeron N4500 is a 2-core chip from 2021, per Intel, while our other four picks have eight cores. Fewer cores means it handles fewer tasks at once, so keep to a few tabs.

4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage are soldered, and Lenovo's listing says the memory is not upgradable. The 11.6-inch HD screen (1366 x 768) is anti-glare with 250 nits, and Lenovo's spec sheet calls it a TN panel, whose colours fade when viewed from the side.

Lenovo claims 11.9 hours from the 42Wh battery in Google's power load test, though its listing photos say 16 hours. It weighs 1.21kg and has HDMI and a USB-C port with display output. The Amazon.in listing gives a 1-year warranty.

Google's update list does not include this model, so we could not confirm its update end date. Its Celeron N4500 dates from 2021, so expect fewer years of updates than the ASUS, which gets them until June 2036.

  • Buy it if ₹16,000 is your hard limit and the laptop is for online classes and homework.
  • Skip it if you can find ₹2,000 more. The ASUS CM1405 has a bigger Full HD screen and a newer 8-core chip.

Can you buy a good Windows laptop under ₹30,000?

Not a new one, in October 2026. The new Windows laptops from big brands in stock under ₹30,000 use 2-core Intel Celeron chips launched in 2019 and 2021, with 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 1366 x 768 screens. Buyers rate them 2.0 and 3.9.

  • Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, Celeron N4020 at around ₹29,999. 4GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, an HD screen, Office 2021 and a 2-year warranty. It is a 2021 model from a third-party seller, and 4GB is tight for Windows 11. Rated 3.9 by 377 buyers.
  • Acer Aspire One, Celeron N4500 at around ₹28,990. 8GB of soldered RAM, a 256GB SSD and a 14-inch 1366 x 768 screen. Rated 2.0 by 12 buyers.

For Windows, your options are a refurbished laptop, Primebook's Cloud PC or the Acer Aspire (2026), with 8GB of RAM and a 15.6-inch Full HD screen, at around ₹38,990.

Can a Primebook run Windows apps like Tally?

Only over the internet, for a monthly fee. Primebook's PrimeX Cloud PC streams a Windows or Linux desktop, and Primebook says it can run desktop apps such as Tally Prime. FoneArena's July 2026 review put the plans at ₹490 to ₹999 a month.

OptionCost after 1 yearCost after 2 yearsWorks offline?
Primebook 2 Pro + Cloud PC at ₹490 a month~₹32,869~₹38,749No
Primebook 2 Pro + Cloud PC at ₹999 a month~₹38,977~₹50,965No
Acer Aspire (2026), 8GB + 256GB SSD, Windows 11 and Office 2024~₹38,990~₹38,990Yes

We added 12 or 24 months of Cloud PC to the Primebook 2 Pro's price. On the higher plan, you spend the price of the Windows laptop within a year.

Cloud PC also needs steady internet. If your Wi-Fi router goes off in a power cut, your Windows apps stop too. It suits occasional use, not daily office work.

Should you buy a refurbished laptop under ₹30,000?

Only if you need Windows and follow a few rules. A refurbished business laptop with an 8th-generation Core i5 is a much faster Windows machine than a new 2-core Celeron, but seller warranties are short and many listings contradict themselves.

Two listings we checked show the risk. A refurbished Dell Latitude 3400 at around ₹26,999 promises a 1-month seller warranty in its bullet points and 6 months in its spec table. Its title says 8th-gen Core i5, but the spec table lists a different chip, the i5-1185G7.

A ThinkPad T490 listing gives its battery life as 1.5 hours.

  • 8th-generation Intel Core or newer. Microsoft's list of Windows 11 processors starts at Intel's 8th generation, so 4th to 6th-generation laptops cannot officially move to Windows 11.
  • Windows 11, not Windows 10. Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on 14 October 2025. When we checked on 14 October 2026, its page said home users can get security updates until 12 October 2027 through Extended Security Updates, and then nothing.
  • A written warranty of 6 months or more, from a seller with many ratings.
  • Battery health. Ask for the battery's current capacity, or budget for a new one. Our guide on how to check laptop battery health shows where to find it.
  • Check the laptop on arrival. Run our free dead pixel test and keyboard tester inside the return window, which is 10 days on the Dell listing above.

Can you get an i5, 16GB of RAM or a gaming laptop under ₹30,000?

Only refurbished. We found no new laptop under ₹30,000 on Amazon.in with a Core i5 or i7, 16GB of RAM or a separate graphics card. Refurbished ThinkPad and Latitude listings with these specs exist, and they carry the risks described above.

Our guide to the best laptop under ₹60,000 shows where new Core i5 laptops with 16GB start, and what gaming laptops cost.

HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS or Acer: which brand is best under ₹30,000?

For a Chromebook, choose Lenovo or ASUS. We would not buy any new Windows laptop that HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS or Acer sells under ₹30,000. The best-rated laptops at this price come from Primebook, an Indian brand whose laptops are made in India.

  • HP: the HP 15s with a Celeron N4500, the only one we found with a free RAM slot, is unavailable. The HP Chromebook 14 (Kompanio 540, 4GB + 128GB, 1366 x 768 screen) at around ₹19,990 is rated 2.7 by 12 buyers.
  • Dell: we found no new Dell laptop under ₹30,000. Check refurbished Latitudes against the rules above.
  • Lenovo: the Lenovo Chromebook above, at around ₹15,990. Skip the 4GB IdeaPad Slim 3.
  • ASUS: the Chromebook CM1405 above, at around ₹17,990. We found no ASUS Windows laptop under ₹30,000.
  • Acer: the Chromebook 311 at around ₹17,990 has a 4.2 rating from only 18 buyers. Skip the Aspire One, rated 2.0.

What to check before you buy

  • The software you need. If your course or job needs Windows programs, a Chromebook will not run them, and a Primebook needs Cloud PC.
  • The exact processor. An 8-core Helio G99 or Kompanio 540 suits browser and app work. A 2-core Celeron is slow, especially on Windows.
  • RAM, and whether it is soldered. Our five picks have 4GB or 8GB of soldered RAM, so buy 8GB if you can.
  • Storage type and size. 128GB or more is comfortable, and UFS is quicker than eMMC.
  • Screen size, resolution and panel. An 11.6-inch screen is easiest to carry, while 14 to 15.6 inches is easier to read. Full HD (1920 x 1080) looks much sharper than HD (1366 x 768), and IPS keeps colours steady from any angle.
  • Price, seller and service. Buy from the brand's store or a seller with many ratings, and check that service covers your pincode.

Buying for a student? Our guide to the best laptops for students also covers higher budgets.

Which laptop under ₹30,000 should you buy?

For most people, buy the Primebook 2 Pro at around ₹26,989. It has 8GB of RAM, a 14.1-inch Full HD screen and a 60.3Wh battery, and 991 buyers rate it 4.3.

For a bigger screen, a number pad and 256GB of storage, choose the Primebook 2 Max at around ₹29,989. To carry a laptop everywhere, the Primebook 2 Neo at around ₹23,990 is the slimmest and lightest.

Under ₹20,000, the ASUS Chromebook CM1405 at around ₹17,990 has a Full HD screen and updates until 2036. If you need Windows programs every day, read our guide to the best laptop under ₹40,000.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best laptop under ₹30,000 in India?

For most people, the Primebook 2 Pro at around ₹26,989. It has a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of UFS storage and a 14.1-inch Full HD IPS screen, and 991 buyers on Amazon.in rate it 4.3. It runs PrimeOS, which is based on Android 15, so it cannot install Windows programs such as Tally.

Can I buy a good Windows laptop under ₹30,000?

Not a new one, in October 2026. The new Windows laptops from big brands in stock under ₹30,000 have 2-core Celeron chips, 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 1366 x 768 screens, rated 2.0 and 3.9. For Windows, buy a refurbished 8th-gen Core i5 laptop with a long warranty, or the Acer Aspire (2026) with 8GB of RAM and a 15.6-inch Full HD screen at around ₹38,990.

Which laptop is best for students under ₹30,000?

The Primebook 2 Pro at around ₹26,989 suits most students whose work is online. It has 8GB of RAM, a 14.1-inch Full HD screen, a backlit keyboard and a claimed 14 hours of battery. If your course needs Windows software such as Tally or AutoCAD, the Primebook will not run it, so plan for a Windows laptop at a higher budget.

Is a Primebook better than a Chromebook?

At this price, a Primebook gives you 8GB of memory against 4GB on the Chromebooks under ₹20,000. A Chromebook runs the full Chrome browser and Microsoft's free web apps. Google counts its updates from the chip platform's launch, so the ASUS CM1405 gets them until June 2036. Primebook promises regular security updates but publishes no update period, and FoneArena says its apps come from Primebook's own store, not Google Play.

Can I get a laptop with an i5 processor or 16GB RAM under ₹30,000?

Only refurbished. We found no new laptop under ₹30,000 on Amazon.in with a Core i5 or i7 or 16GB of RAM. Refurbished business laptops such as the ThinkPad T490 offer these specs, but buy one only with an 8th-gen or newer Intel chip, Windows 11 and a written warranty of at least six months.

Is there a gaming laptop under ₹30,000?

No. Every new laptop under ₹30,000 we found relies on graphics built into the processor, with no separate graphics card. That handles light games, but big new PC games need a dedicated graphics card, and laptops with one cost far more than ₹30,000. The five picks here are for study, office work and streaming.
