CADR — Clean Air Delivery Rate — is how much clean air the machine actually produces, measured in cubic metres per hour. It is the only spec worth comparing across brands, because it combines fan power and filter quality into one figure.
Room coverage claims are marketing. A brand can quote a big number by assuming one air change an hour, which is far too slow to matter.

The running cost nobody mentions
The sticker price is not what an air purifier costs you. Filters are consumable, and over three years they often cost more than the machine did.
A replacement HEPA filter in India typically runs ₹1,500 to ₹3,500. How often you buy one is the whole question.

Before you buy, search the filter's own model number on Amazon.in and check two things: that it is actually sold, and what it costs. An imported purifier with no filter supply in India becomes a very expensive fan.
Do air purifiers actually work?
Yes, for particles. A true HEPA filter removes at least 99.95% of particles at the hardest size to catch, which covers PM2.5, dust, pollen, smoke and pet dander. That part is settled and measurable on any AQI meter.
What they do not do is just as important:
- They do not remove carbon dioxide. A sealed room still needs ventilation. A purifier is not a substitute for opening a window when the outside air is clean.
- They only clean the room they are in. Air does not travel between rooms fast enough for one unit to treat a flat. Buy for the room you use most.
- Gases and smells need carbon, not HEPA. HEPA catches particles. Only a thick activated carbon layer touches odours and VOCs, and thin carbon sheets saturate in weeks.

Ionisers and UV: skip them
Any purifier whose main selling point is an ioniser or UV lamp rather than a HEPA filter is worth avoiding.
Ionisers charge particles so they stick to surfaces instead of being captured. The air reads cleaner on a sensor; the dust is on your furniture.
Some ionisers also produce ozone, which is a lung irritant. It is a real trade-off, not a bonus feature.
